The Influence of Social Class on Family Participation in Children’s Education: A Case Study

Parental involvement in children’s education is commonly accepted as beneficial. However, family social class plays a crucial role the efficacy of homework help. In comparative case study, low-income immigrant from Mexico and middle-income Los Angeles were observed helping their children with math asked questions about goals, tutoring strategies, beliefs learning. Qualitative analysis focused on two effective teaching methods: scaffolding productive struggle. The mother little formal provided direct help rather than scaffold, disapproved hard problems. an older sibling more her used believed that difficult problems aid these respects, she resembled college-educated mother. sister exemplifies how siblings families provide bridges to educational achievement for younger siblings.
